Voxel Vision: Strategies for Interpreting CBCT images for Endodontists

Interpretation of the CBCT volumetric image dataset is the professional duty of each endodontist who operates a CBCT unit or requests a specific CBCT study. The interpretive process in endodontics demands advanced knowledge of dental. alveolar and maxillofacial anatomy, an understanding of anatomic variations, recognition of abnormalities and an appreciation of notable incidental findings. A thorough review of the virtual radiographic patient can only be achieved by a systematic approach. This presentation will use specific cases to demonstrate the fundamental concepts and mechanics of CBCT navigation and provide participants with guidelines on intellectually processing CBCTs using “voxel vision”.

Objectives

  1. Describe a comprehensive approach to analyzing endodontic CBCT images
  2. Recognize anatomic and pathologic radiographic features associated with endodontically involved teeth
  3. Formulate a simple radiographic differential diagnosis
